Course Description: LIFE DRAWING: Sketching the Human Figure

Life drawing is a fundamental skill that has been a core foundation of art education for centuries.  It helps art students to develop observational skills, a sense or proportion and perspective, and attain an understanding of the human form, anatomy and physical expression.

In the fall session, Artistic Kreations hopes to run a weekly life drawing class, designed to help beginner through intermediate students improve their observational drawing skills through figure drawing.  We offer a special three hour workshop on Friday, August 18, to introduce artists to the study of life drawing.

This three hour long workshop will introduce you to the art of life drawing.  An experienced instructor will guide you through the basics of capturing the essence of the human form of paper, as you start with very quick poses to develop a sense of proportion and perspective and gradually move on to slightly longer poses that allow you to develop the shape and contour of the human body.  As you learn to build the form attention will be spent on developing depth through the use of modeling and shading. The study of figure drawing will improve all of your drawing and painting, and help you develop the confidence to tackle and 2D Art challenge.   There will be individualized instruction and group critique.  Students can expect a very positive, fun, laid back and nurturing class environment. Beginner students are welcome and encouraged to join.

The price of the workshop includes a professional, live, nude model and instruction.

The workshop will cover the basics of observational figure drawing, focusing on gesture and motion, introductory anatomy, modeling the human form through an understanding of light and shadow, and capturing movement and emotion in 2D artwork.  Students will draw from the nude live model. All serious artists, beginner through advanced, are welcome to participate (students under the age of 18 years must have signed permission forms from their parent/guardian).

If you’re interested in improving your drawing and would like to experience life drawing before committing to a weekly class in the fall, this is the workshop for you!   There’s nothing to be scared of. If you’re apprehensive about working from a live model – Don’t be!  It may be a new experience, and slight awake are for a minute or two, but virtually everyone settles in and gets comfortable quickly.  Expect a very informative and uplifting experience!
